Bob's CDs
Farewell Coast of Cleveland CDBack Cover

Farewell Coast of Cleveland was Bob Fortune's first CD. It is published by Cringe Music, and features, in addition to Bob, Vin Garbutt on whistle; Jonty on fiddle, mandolin, whistle and piano; and Edd Saul on guitar, bass and keyboard.

Bob has provided some notes about the songs:

Teesbay: This is about the ships anchored off the Tees that seem to have a life of their own.

Liverpool Sixpence: In 1938 my father arrived in Liverpool from Wexford without a penny. On the dockside a man bought him a cup of tea and gave him sixpence — he never forgot it.

Galway Shawl and As I Rode Out are Irish songs that my dad would sing around the house.

Farewell Coast of Cleveland: Teesside's greatest export is its men who go to contract all over the world. Most never come back again.

Redcar Beach: Little cameos I see on the beach opposite my house on Redcar seafront.

Winds of Change: This is about the change from the industrial past to the reality of today; how things move on no matter what.

Mary Penrose: A true story about a lady from Stockton who was a benefactor to the poor of the town — rags to riches.

Who Pays the Price?: The mess left by industry and the multi-nationals has to be cleared up, and we pay for it with health or money or our lifestyle.

A Place I Dare Not Go: Memories of places and of people.

The Cleveland Way. Bob Fortune's second CD, also published by Cringe Music. He plays guitars, bass, keyboard and mandolin, with Brian Davis on the harmonica.

Bob's notes on the songs are:

The Cleveland Way: This is about the history of this coastal footpath; the Romans, the Vikings and the early tribes.

Time in My Hands: The folks I knew on the Redcar seafront, the fishermen and the lifeboatmen.

Gone to Australia: You know those guys — they drank their lives away and never went anywhere.

Fields of County Cork: Teesside's Irish workers — my dad was one of them.

South Gare: About that magic place, the South gare breakwater.

The Saltburn Valley Gardens: What a great place to go.

Golden Eagle: About leaving home to fight wars far away.

Windy Hill Lane: The good times I had in Marske-by-the-Sea.

First Light: The best time of the day — just before dawn.

Streets: How the streets I knew as a boy have changed.

Bob Stanway's Bin: A fun song to celebrate the arrival of a new bin near my house.

Atocha Morning: About the terrorist bombing of Atocha Station in Madrid.
